A commercial putting green is one of the more involved artificial turf installations because the base shaping determines the playing character of the finished green. Unlike flat landscape turf where the base goal is simply level and draining, a putting green base is intentionally contoured to create the breaks and slopes that make the green interesting and challenging.
The process starts with design. We work with the client on the layout, the number of holes or cup positions, the overall shape, and the contour features. For golf facility clients, the designer may be a golf course architect. For hospitality and entertainment clients, we work directly with the property manager or owner on a layout that fits the space and the intended guest experience.
Base preparation follows the design. The sub-base is excavated and graded to the designed contour, then a drainage layer is installed, then a compacted base material that holds the contour shape. The putting surface turf is installed over the finished base and trimmed to the planned shape. Fringe turf is installed at the perimeter transition. Cups are set flush and secured. The finished surface is groomed to bring the blade upright and achieve consistent ball roll across the entire green.
