There is a reason professional flooring installers spend as much time on prep as they do on the actual installation. Rubber flooring installed over an improperly prepared surface fails. The edges lift. The mats shift. Moisture gets trapped underneath and causes odor, mold, and premature rubber degradation. The most common prep shortcuts we see when called in to fix someone else's work: skipping the moisture test on a slab, not grinding down adhesive residue from a previous floor, and leaving more than a quarter-inch of height variation across the subfloor. Any one of those will eventually cause a problem. All three together and you are relaying the floor within two years.
